Report on the 2009 Prestige
Wine Tasting Event
More than $110,000 to support
the Mental Illness Foundation
On April 29, 2009, the Mental Illness Foundation raised more than $110,000 at its 14th Prestige Wine Tasting Event presented at the 2350 Perspective Room of the Montreal Science Centre. The 2009 edition, commented by one of Quebec’s finest wine expert, Denis Marsan, Director – Research and Development, Service Signature of the Société des alcools du Québec, gave to approximately 250 guests the privilege of discovering and tasting exquisite wines from some of France and Italy’s greatest producers, such as the Ornellaia 1998, Bolgheri.
Generosity was apparent throughout the evening despite these difficult economic times in order to support the efforts made by the Mental Illness Foundation in the prevention of mental illness amongst teens, workers and seniors. “Everybody knows in one way or another someone with a mental illness. Whether its depression, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, suffering is omnipresent and often taboo.” declared the Honorary President of the evening, Philippe Duval, Chief Executive Officer of the Société des alcools du Québec. “Fortunately, the Mental Illness Foundation works to prevent these disorders, to reduce the distress of people affected by mental illness, as well as to mobilize society on its consequences. The SAQ is delighted to be able to pass on its passion for enjoying good wine and good food at a fundraising event. An event which shows once again that organizations can count on the generosity of people and companies to fulfill their mission.”

The Foundation wishes to warmly thank all the participants of this evening, especially those who acquired through the verbal and silent auctions, these rare and prestigious wines. Thank you also to the sponsors of this 14th Wine Tasting: the Société des alcools du Québec, Power Corporation of Canada, Boulangerie Première Moisson, Fromagerie Hamel, La Nouvelle Tablée, Supermarché Racicot (1980) inc., Gisèle Gauthier Traiteur and Duocom. Thanks to your support to the cause of mental illness, the Foundation will be able to maintain and improve its prevention programs Partners for Life and Nothing’s Working? and at the same time develop its future prevention program for seniors.
