$302 000 to prevent depression in teenagers!

Once again, the annual golf tournament of the Mental Illness Foundation and the Quebec Youth Foundation was a tremendous success. More than 230 people attended this memorable event which raised a record net sum of $ 302,000 towards preventing depression and other dramatic issues present for youth.

The money raised will help to ensure the sustainability of the Mental Illness Foundation’s program “Partners for Life”. Through free presentations in schools all over the province, this program aims to educate students on detecting the signs and symptoms of teen depression, an illness that can lead to academic failure and even suicide. Because we know that 75% of mental disorders appear before the age of 22, the urgency to invest in a program like Partners for Life all too clear.[1]

Under the co-chairmanship of Mr. Steve Foley, Managing Director and Head of Canadian Equity Sales, RBC Capital Markets, and Mr. François -Xavier Souvay, founder, president and CEO of Lumenpulse, the event was held at the Elm Ridge golf Club in Île-Bizard. "I am very happy and excited to support this cause. I personally know young people struggling with depression and I totally understand the distress that this may cause the family "said Mr. Souvay. "Young people are the future of society, we cannot say it enough. It’s on us to help them become strong and successful adults" added Mr. Foley

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the testimony of a young man who had experienced depression as a teenager. “When I was in secondary 3, Partners for Life made ??a presentation in my French class, and I recognized myself in the symptoms of depression. I decided to talk to my parents and that's when it started to get better for me. Today, I am finishing my bachelor’s degree. I consider myself a happy person now and I hope to make the world a better place”.

We would like to thank our organizing committee, RBC Dominion Securities, and Lumenpulse for their incredible support as well as our sponsors and partners: BMO Capital Markets and Givesco. We look forward to seeing everyone at the next edition in June 2017!
